Game Report, Australia vs France, 79-66 - Quarter-Finals

São Paulo / Brazil - Australia charged into the final four of the FIBA World Championship for Women after a blistering start against France.

Jan Stirling's Opals opened up a 23-13 first-quarter lead and after stretching that to 42-28 at half-time, they won easily.

The victory throws the Australians into another semi-final showdown against Brazil, the team they beat at the same stage two years ago at the Athens Olympics.

This time Brazil, who reached the last four with a decisive triumph over the Czech Republic, are hosts and will have the loud support of their home crowd.

As is usually the case, Lauren Jackson and Penny Taylor did most of the damage for the Opals, pouring in nearly half of their 79 points.

Jackson had 19 while Taylor weighed in with 18.

Australia out-rebounded France 41-33 - Jackson had 11 of those - while they were also rewarded for their ability to attack the best by getting to the free throw line and making 26 of 37 (70%) attempts.

France got 15 points from Sandrine Gruda.
